NAMA: Literary awards in Zimbabwe 2017/18

The 17th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA -Zimbabwe-) will be held on the date, February 17, 2018, and nominees will be released during the first week of February. 'NAMA' will merit in its usual 8 categories which are, Music, Literary, Dance, Visual, Film and Television, Theatre, Media and Spoken Word. The 17th editions' number of entries increased from the preceding with almost double figures, 1334 from 775, and that’s according to the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe which is part of the judging panel.

NAMA has been the biggest merit event so far in Zimbabwe since independence in Zimbabwe and many published Zimbabwean authors have benefited from the platform.

Last year the outstanding first creative published works were, 
Tears and Scars: Penjeni Madzikangava,
Behind the Wall Everywhere: Farai Mungoshi,
and Misodzi Yerombe: Kelvin Mangwende.

In the Special Mention category was,

Vicious Circle: by Stephen Mutsago.
The Outstanding Children's Book category included;
My Son: Albert Nyathi & Ignatius Mabasa,
A Magical Adventure in Chewore: Chellie Conlon,and The Unwelcome Visit: by Farai Nyandoro.

The Outstanding Fiction category included,

Judas Files: by Robert Mukondiwa,
The Latter Rain: by Phillip k Chidavaenzi,
and Whose Land is it Anyway: by Benjamin S. Sibanda.
